Everything You Need To Know Before Getting Dermal Fillers

4 years ago By MedSpa.One Skin Rejuvenation

Hyaluronic acid fillers are contraindicated for patients who suffer from auto-immune disorders. If you ever had any severe allergies or anaphylaxis, you should definitely tell your health-care provider prior to getting injections. You should not get injections if you have UTI (urinary tract injection), skin infection or sinus infection. If you are on antibiotics you should first finish the course of medication and only then proceed with the treatment. Avoid dental visits for 1-2 weeks after the injection - you do not want the filler to move. Let your clinic know if you are prone to cold sores.

Things you should avoid a week prior to the injections:

  • Any blood thinning medications - they slightly increase the chance of getting bruises: Advil, Aspirin, etc.
  • It is better to stay away from natural blood thinners as well: fish oil, gingko biloba, Vitamin E, grapefruit, green tea, dark chocolate, red wine
  • Avoid drinking alcohol before and after the treatment
  • Avoid fatty fish, omega 3
  • Women should consider avoiding booking their dermal filler appointments during a week leading up to their menstrual cycle because it might slightly increase the chances of bruising. Women during this time are more sensitive to pain.
  • Avoid excessive physical activity 2 days before and 2 days after the treatment
  • Avoid travelling on airplanes for a week after the injections are done
  • You are encouraged to take Arnica for 2 to 4 days before the injection and for 2 days after the injections

If you have any questions or if you are unsure, do not hesitate to contact your nurse or doctor!   Many medical spas offer consultations prior to the treatment - you can always have all your questions answered!
