What's My Skin Type?

Normal Skin
People with normal skin types usually meet a specific criteria: few blemishes or breakouts, lessened pore visibility, and overall generally balanced skin hydration. In most cases, skin does not feel dry or greasy. Gentle daily exfoliation followed up with gel-like moisturizers will lower the chances of breakouts in the T-zone and cheeks. It is important to start out with a small amount of the moisturizer and gradually increase to avoid stressing and over-moisturizing skin. What is normal skin for you, may be entirely different to someone else so exploring products to produce the best results is recommended.

Dry Skin
Those with dry skin often deal with a variety of issues. Dull complexion, scaly or flaking skin, red patches, over an overall tight feeling in your face. Similarly, there are also a variety of reasons for why your skin is dry. It can be hereditary, dehydration, hormonal changes, climate, medication, the wrong skincare regimen, or general lifestyle. Combating dryness comes with daily exfoliation with gentle ingredients that won't dry out your skin further. Recommendations include moisturizers with hyaluronic acid, also called sodium hyaluronate, that helps draw in moisture to keep your skin hydrated.

Oily Skin

Regardless of what type of skin you have, all produce necessary natural oils (referred to as sebum) to keep itself hydrated and healthy. An overabundance of this causes shiny skin but also clogged pores that bring on blemishes, blackheads, or pimples. Oily skin can worsen through changes in temperature, hormonal imbalances, dehydration and even stress. Prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, it's important to exfoliate with gentle cleansers (antibacterial if the acne breakout is severe) to help promote new skin cells and lessen dark spots. Over-washing your face will dry out pores, which causes your skin to create more oil. Skincare products with noncomedogenic (won't cause blocked pores) ingredients are recommended.

Combination Skin
Areas of skin that have both dry or normal, and oily, is considered combination skin but even then that may vary from person to person. Some may have certain areas affected by oiliness, or dryness all the time, while others have skin types that shift depending on the season. If the t-zone is oilier than the rest of your face, then using a product just for that skin type may work. Applying different products to different areas, or even switching up products depending on climate, can help lessen issues.
